Something commonly misunderstood, is the difference between reindeer and caribou. Barring that one sells coffee and the other drags Santa around, there is none. It's the same animal with a different name.

Generally the North American nomenclature being caribou and reindeer being it's Eurasian counterpart. The term reindeer also being commonly used for domesticated herds.
